We all know pets offer and accept unconditional love; certainly in these last weeks we have all needed some of that! There are also many great books and movies that feature animals \u2026 here are some of MPL\u2019s staff favorites:<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>The Art of Racing in the Rain<\/em><\/strong> by Garth Stein \u2013 The relationship between a race car driver and his dog, Enzo, through the years.\u00a0\u00a0 Recently made into a movie, which is available on <strong><em>Hulu, <\/em><\/strong> the story is both touching and uplifting. <strong><em>Amanda G., Circulation\u00a0\u00a0 Available as an audiobook and ebook on <a href=\"https:\/\/nassau.overdrive.com\/search?query=The%20Art%20of%20Racing%20in%20the%20Rain\">Libby<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hoopladigital.com\/search?scope=everything&amp;q=The%20Art%20of%20Racing%20in%20the%20Rain\">Hoopla<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Watchers<\/em><\/strong> by Dean Koontz \u2013 While hiking, a man comes across a bedraggled golden retriever who stops him from going deeper into the woods. This is the book that put Dean Koontz on the map \u2013 it\u2019s a thriller, touching and a page-turning read. If you love animals and the amazing way they can add so much to life, you\u2019ll love this! <strong><em>Nancy M., Circulation\u00a0\u00a0 Available as an audiobook and ebook on <a href=\"https:\/\/nassau.overdrive.com\/search?query=Dewey%20the%20Library%20Cat\">Libby<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>A Pedigree to Die For<\/em><\/strong> by Laurien Berenson \u2013 The first book of a mystery series featuring a single mother who gets involved with the dog show circuit. If you like watching the Westminster Dog Show, this might be the series for you! <strong><em>Kristin G., Circulation\u00a0\u00a0 Available as an audiobook and ebook on <a href=\"https:\/\/nassau.overdrive.com\/search?query=A%20Pedigree%20to%20Die%20For\">Libby<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>A Dog\u2019s Purpose<\/em><\/strong> by Bruce Cameron \u2013 This is the first book in a series about the many reincarnations of the dog \u201cBailey\u201d. Written from the dog\u2019s point of view and the search for his purpose in life. Interesting to imagine the thoughts and perspective of our pets! This heartwarming book has also been made into a movie (which is available on <strong><em>Amazon<\/em><\/strong>), and sequels include <strong><em>A Dog\u2019s Journey, A Dog\u2019s Promise <\/em><\/strong>and <strong><em>Bailey\u2019s Story. Linda G., Circulation <\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<strong><em>All available on <a href=\"https:\/\/nassau.overdrive.com\/search?query=Bruce%20Cameron\">Libby<\/a><\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Black Beauty<\/em><\/strong> by Anna Sewell \u2013 A horse in nineteenth-century England recounts his experiences with both good and bad masters. With fifty million copies sold, Black Beauty is one of the best-selling books of all time. A great read for young and old! <strong><em>Larry L., Reference \u00a0Available as an audiobook and ebook on <a href=\"https:\/\/nassau.overdrive.com\/search?query=black+beauty\">Libby<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hoopladigital.com\/search?page=1&amp;q=black+beauty&amp;scope=everything&amp;type=direct\">Hoopla<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Many movies have also been made of <strong><em>Black Beauty<\/em><\/strong>. The classic 1944 Hollywood version stars Elizabeth Taylor (when she was a young teenager) and Mickey Rooney, but there are many others, including a 1994 remake starring Alan Cumming as Black Beauty. That one is available on <strong><em>Netflix.<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Seabiscuit<\/em><\/strong> by Laura Hillenbrand \u2013 A universal underdog story, Seabiscuit was one of the most popular attractions in horse racing history. Extremely readable, it offers a fascinating window into the racing life. A movie based on the book was made in 2003 and won the Academy Award for Best Cinematography (available on <strong><em>Amazon<\/em><\/strong>). <strong><em>Stephanie C., Circulation\u00a0\u00a0 Available as an audiobook and ebook on <a href=\"https:\/\/nassau.overdrive.com\/search?query=Seabiscuit\">Libby<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Call of the Wild <\/em><\/strong>by Jack London \u2013Buck is stolen from his home in California and shipped north to the Yukon, and there his adventures begin. If you last read this book in high school, please read it again \u2013 it is truly an American classic. There is a famous 1935 film adaptation, starring Clark Gable and Loretta Young, as well as the new 2020 release starring Harrison Ford (currently available On Demand). However, this book is definitely better than the movie! <strong><em>Stephanie C., Circulation\u00a0\u00a0 Available as an audiobook and ebook on <a href=\"https:\/\/nassau.overdrive.com\/search?query=The%20Call%20of%20the%20Wild\">Libby<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>The Lucky Dog Matchmaking Service<\/em><\/strong> by Beth Kendrick \u2013 A woman with a gift can help someone find his\/her soulmate \u2026 specifically a canine soulmate! <strong><em>Kristin G., Circulation Available as an audiobook on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hoopladigital.com\/search?scope=everything&amp;q=The%20Lucky%20Dog%20Matchmaking%20Service\">Hoopla<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>WAG: The Science of Making Your Dog Happy<\/em><\/strong> by Zazie Todd \u2013 Everything from doing research about what breed is right for you and your family to how to train a puppy, visiting the vet, adjusting to life with a dog and much more. Not only will this help you raise your new family member, it will help you better understand them! <strong><em>Christine K., Circulation<\/em><\/strong> <strong><em>Available on <a href=\"https:\/\/nassau.overdrive.com\/search?query=WAG+the+science+of+making+your+dog+happy\">Libby<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>And lastly \u2026<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Things to Do During the Pandemic With Your Dogs (Christine K., Circulation)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Spend time walking them \u2013 it gets you out of the house and they will enjoy the walk.<\/p>\n<p>Take them to the local dog park.<\/p>\n<p>Teach them new tricks.<\/p>\n<p>Watch YouTube\/Instagram videos about teaching dog tricks.<\/p>\n<p>Join BarkBox, a dog subscription service that will send your dog a box of toys and treats!<\/p>\n<p>Most of all \u2013 enjoy the time you have with your pet.
