The Manhasset Public Library will be presenting a new exhibit, “Home Away From Home,” artwork by the sixty members of The Art Guild. The exhibit will run from December 4- March 29 in the Community Room Gallery.
The library is hosting this exhibit to assist The Art Guild as a result of the substantial damage to their usual exhibition space at Elderfields Preserve, 200 Port Washington Boulevard, Manhasset. This past summer, following restoration of power to Elderfields after hurricaine Irene, an electrical fire damaged the main house and caretaker’s cottage. The fire directly impacted The Art Guild’s home and was extensive enough that The Guild has been obliged to cancel all programs and activities.
The Art Guild of Port Washington (TAG) was founded in 1999 by a group of artists and incorporated a year later. TAG signed an agreement with Nassau County for use of the 3.5 acre Elderfields Historic preserve including the historic Hewlett-Munson-Williams House which allowed The Art Guild to develop programs including workshops, lectures, demonstrations and classes for children, teens and adults. Use of the house also allowed for an ambitious schedule of exhibits for members’ group shows as well as open, juried competitions and exhibits.
