Mary Ann is a retired New York City educator who is now focused on her lifelong interest in painting.
Her favorite subject is nature and especially plant life which she approaches from two somewhat different points of view: botanical painting which emphasizes accuracy and attention to detail, and sumi-e which seeks to capture the essence of the subject.
Mary Ann has degrees in Education from St. John’s University and Hofstra University. She has studied painting at Suffolk Community College, the Art league of Long Island, and with several Long Island watercolorists. Most recently she has studied with botanical artist Rose Pellicano and with sumi-e artists Carolyn Clarke, In Kim and Sung SookSetton.
