MPL Staff Picks – Dear Edward

0

One pleasure while we are at home is rediscovering reading. When the day seems longer than it should getting lost in a good book still has the ability to transport us to other places, times and lives

This week, here are some of our favorites. We’d love to hear from you about what you’re reading!

Dear Edward by Ann Napolitano
Edward, a 12 year old boy who is the lone survivor of a place crash, must make his way through life. I really enjoyed this book, at times touching, funny and sad, with an uplifting message. – Stephanie C.-Circulation Dept.  Available as an ebook and audio book on Libby

A Long Petal of the Sea by Isabel Allende
Historical fiction about refugees who fled the Spanish Civil War and emigrated to Chile. Beautiful writing about a little known historical time period.  Recommended. – Linda G.-Circulation Dept.
Available as an ebook and audio book on Libby

The Whisper Man by Alex North
Wonderfully creepy thriller about a widower and his son looking to make a fresh start. This debut novel will captivate you and draw you into the story. – Kristen G.Circulation Dept.
Available as an ebook and audio book on Libby

More Books On Libby

Libby is a great resource. Although it’s easy to put books on hold, you can also search the catalog for what’s available right now. This is a great time to read a classic you’ve never read or start a series. Let us know what you’re reading on Libby this week! Here are some ideas:

Classics

I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou – Wonderfully written autobiography. If you’ve never read it, it’s a must. – Stephanie C.-Circulation Dept. Available as an ebook and audio book on Libby

The Bronte Sisters (Charlotte and Emily)

Rediscover Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights – then watch the old movies. You’ll never look at Mr. Rochester the same way after you see Orson Welles play him. Laurence Olivier as Heathcliffe isn’t bad either!

Louise Penney. Donna Leon. Michael Connelly. Lucinda Riley. Libby will tell you which book is number one in the series and you can go from there.

Podcasts

These are great to listen to while you’re cooking or doing things that don’t require too much attention. One of my favorites is American History Tellers.  There are many subjects of American history to choose from, and each subject has several episodes that delve deep and are very informative. Some subjects include the Great Depression, Prohibition and the Space Race. Highly recommend. – Linda G.-Circulation Dept.
