H.G. Wells
We celebrate National Library Month by looking at the life of one of the great thinkers and visionaries of the twentieth century, H. G. Wells. In classic novels like The Time Machine, The War of the Worlds, and The Invisible Man, he practically invented the genre of contemporary science fiction. But those seminal works were just a small part of his life. Wells wrote over 160 books covering fields from fiction to history to political commentary. His Short History of the World (1922) is still used in classrooms today for its insightful vision of humanity and its troubled journey. In his day, he was one of the most famous and influential thinkers in the world; when he spoke, people listened.
