For Syd Glasser, art is about the process and experimentation. Trained in figure studies, her current work includes images based on aspects of her life and illustrates moments of strength and vulnerability as they are witnessed and experienced.  An equestrian for the better part of 25 years, her latest series explores the strength, fragility, and beauty of horses.
Syd Glasser graduated with a BA in printmaking and an MA in Student Affairs from SUNY Binghamton and from there continued to develop and maintain a practice as a professional artist.  Shortly after leaving Binghamton, Syd moved to Brooklyn, and has maintained a studio residency with chashama since 2007.  Often combining the beauty she finds in urban and architectural decay with images of figures and horses, her process pushes the boundary between abstract and representation and also tests our expectations of the appearance of her subjects.
Syd has shown her work in galleries throughout Brooklyn and Manhattan and has received several awards from SUNY Binghamton for her work in monotype and mixed media.  She currently maintains a chashama studio residency at the Brooklyn Army Terminal.  In 2013 her work was featured as part of Curate NYC’s open call.  In the fall of 2014, her work was featured at the Binghamton University art museum as part of their juried alumni art show and she had a solo exhibition of a series of portraits of strong women in the Garment District in Manhattan. This spring she had a solo exhibition of a series of horses at Gallery 18 in the Bronx. She was one of four artists being highlighted at chashama’s 20th anniversary benefit gala this past June.
