Revisiting the Founding Era

In 2018, the History Center at the Manhasset Public Library was awarded a “Revisiting the Founding Era” grant to implement public programming and community conversations that explores America’s founding era and its enduring themes. Revisiting the Founding Era is a three-year national initiative of The Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, presented in partnership with the American Library Association and the National Constitution Center, with support from the National Endowment for the Humanities. Based on the grant’s guidelines our History Center launched a series of programs, from January to March 2020, on the Founding Era. The programs explored the 18th century world of George Washington, Phillis Wheatley as well as Thomas Paine, and the many connections between the founders’ world and our own.

In addition to the programing an exhibition, featuring Founding Era themes, was installed in the Library’s lobby exhibit space.
